The day’s festivities were capped by an announcement from CWF President David Jackson that the center’s main conference room would be named in Nelson’s honor.

“Every family who has walked through our doors, every staff member past and present, and countless numbers of people throughout our broader community have been beneficiaries of Doug Nelson’s vision and his unyielding commitment to helping build families and neighborhoods,” Jackson said. “We owe him a tremendous debt of gratitude, and we’re absolutely thrilled that our building will bear his name as a permanent reminder of his many contributions to others.”

Nelson in September announced he will step down in April 2010 after two decades as head of the leading American philanthropy serving the nation’s disadvantaged children and their families.
